Lost wax bronze replica.
Author: Jacopo Sansovino
Period: 1512
The masterpiece is now conserved at the Bargello National Museum in Florence.
The sculpture represents a happy and young Bacchus toasting. A faun is sitting behind him, in a very classical representation of the God of wine. In 1512 Sansovino carved the Bacchus for the gardens of Villa Gualfonda, Florence, and this was only the first of its many locations. The smiling young Bacchus seems so realistic and full of life that it
looks like he is going to start dancing.
