Lost wax bronze replica from original mold.
The Idolino is a bronze roman statue located inside the Florence National Archeological Museum. It was found around 1530 in Pesaro, Italy, and it is supposed to be a roman copy from the period of Augustus of a Greek original of the V century, referable to the late activity of the artistic production of Polykleitos. The piece is one of the best preserved pieces depicting a young boy in its entire body and was found in fragments inside a private house. It arrived in Florence thanks to Vittoria della Rovere, niece of Ferdinando I de’ Medici, who at the death of her father moved from Umbria to Florence to live close to her relatives.
