In Mela della condivisione, the Apple of Sharing, Monetti reinterprets the apple—an ancient symbol of temptation, sin,
and desire—transforming it into a contemporary gesture. Traditionally depicted as bitten on one
side, the apple here bears two bites, marking an intentional and shared action.
For the artist, the apple has long been a recurring presence in her work, embodying themes of
femininity, exclusion, and consumption. Throughout history, the “companion creature”—woman—
has been defined, used, and narrated by others. By introducing a second bite, Monetti interrupts
this inherited symbolism and proposes a new one: participation instead of possession, sharing
instead of control.
Cast in bronze and varnished in its distinguished red Apple color, the sculpture translates a symbolic act into enduring material
form. The work suggests that equality and dignity are not abstract ideals but gestures to be
enacted—together.
