The panel Moses Receiving the Ten Commandments contrasts with the chaos in the previous panels, as Ghiberti depicts Moses receiving holy law from God. The anxious crowds gather around the base of Mount Sinai, upon which Moses is elevated in the composition. The crowd does not wait patiently but fights and generates the same kind of frenzy seen in earlier panels. From above, God and his angels bring Moses the tablets of law that provide the desperately-needed order to his people below. Through law, he creates a stronger civilisation, which grows into the kingdom that Ghiberti depicts in the subsequent panels.
