Selene Horse by Sarah Kalimeraki

The "Head of the Horse of Selene" is a famous sculpture that belongs to the eastern pediment of the Parthenon, a temple dedicated to the goddess Athena to whom the sculptures were linked, and more specifically to the aspect of the birth of Athena. The sculpture depicts the head of a horse protruding from the frame of the tympanum, evoking the movement of the chariot of Selene, the goddess of the moon, which plunges into the nocturnal abyss. The horse's head is an important element of the eastern pediment of the Parthenon, which depicts the birth of Athena from the head of Zeus.
