Around the same time as the Biblical Flood, Yu the Great led the people of ancient China
through the floods of the Yellow River. This convergence of events related to survival and
healing sparked the Sculptor's curiosity: which plants were chosen to be saved? Who guarded
the knowledge?
This work—guided by the sculptor’s new artistic direction of Fang Yi art—reimagines an angelic
and priestly figure, silent guardian of such knowledge. The face, inspired by a young Chinese
priestess, is adorned with plant and animal motifs associated with healing. With a playful
gesture of raised thumbs, it exudes strength and sweetness.
It is placed on a tortoiseshell ark, inspired by the ancient ideograms Hetu and Luoshu, in
homage to the curiosity and classical wisdom so dear to Ghiberti.
