Queen of Sheba and King Salomon by Amirhossein Yaghoobi

In Queen of Sheba and King Solomon, Amirhossein Yaghoobi depicts the legendary meeting of the two sovereigns through a synthesis of Persian, Quranic, and biblical traditions. The work draws on Persian miniature iconography with intricate architectural and symbolic motifs. From right to left (as Persian is written), the four central etchings depict the timeline of the story: 1) the Queen receives the invitation of Solomon brought by his messenger Hoopoe, 2) the Queen consults with her court, 3) Solomon on his throne, 4) the meeting between the Queen and Solomon. The linocut matte border, inspired by Persian tilework and Ghiberti’s Porta del Paradiso, unites Eastern and Western artistic traditions. Through its patterns, colors, and textures, the piece transforms an ancient tale into a meditation on beauty, balance, and the meeting of worlds.
