Lost wax bronze casting.

Location: Palazzo Pitti, Firenze
Period: 1804-1812

The work was realized by the sculptor Antonio Canova in 1804-1812, to replace the Venus medicea, a copy of the Hellinic Aphrodite of Cnido by Prassitele, transferred to Paris in 1802, and later positioned in its original place (Tribuna degli Uffizi), after the fall of Napoleon.
Initially, the work had to be a copy of the original, but Canova dislike that idea, and he decided to create an autonomous masterpiece of modern sensibility, the sensual interpretation and graced of the goddess, that is going out of the bath and it seems taken by surprised by the arrive of someone.

The original masterpiece is inside Palazzo Pitti, in the Galleria Palatina, it represents a neoclassical gem of the city of Florence.
