The underlying idea of this project of Tironi is to represent modern-day society, in all its materialism and consumerism, by using recovered materials, such as everyday objects which are normally used and then discarded.
In “Relics of consumerism” the human form remains as merely a fragment, as part of a whole, of a mass in transformation, chaotic and unpredictable. The piece seems to suggest to an inescapable connection that ties any given physical element to the ground, a unique form of matter that grows continuously and gives form to every living thing and being. Just think of plastic objects, originating from the refining of petroleum, which in turn derives from the transformation of decomposing biological material. If the combination capitalism-consumerism has become almost a sort of religious creed which people helplessly adhere to, these sculptures are none other than contemporary idols, real and authentic relics of this religiousness which had led to objects becoming status-symbols and subjects of veneration.
