The underlying idea of this project of Tironi is to represent modern-day society, in all its materialism and consumerism, by using recovered materials, such as everyday objects which are normally used and then discarded. This sculpture is based on the concept of a monument, as an historical emblem focused on the commemoration of important historical figures and heroic conquests or, more generally, to represent mankind's' virtues and actions. It is a celebration of the Modern Man, portrayed in a complex and contradictory existential condition, survivor of a century that has witnessed the worldwide diffusion of capitalist culture as well as a consumerist lifestyle. The monumental dimension of the work reminds us of the amount of waste that is produced every day and also particularity for the use of unusual materials that with the artistic action regain a new dignity.
A weary and defenceless figure stands a top a mountain of rubbish, a kind of unstable and decadent throne, which, whilst also accentuating the tragic aspect, symbolizes mankind's will to elevate himself to a higher social status by accumulating wealth, with the possession and display of his own material assets.
