The original marble masterpiece is now kept in the Uffizi Museum, Florence.
Satyrs were followers of the God Bacchus, personified the wildest of natures and were considered inferior deities. They were often depicted with small horns on their heads, pointed ears, with thick hair, and goat feet. The main activities in which they were portrayed were beating grapes, flirting with nymphs and playing musical instruments.
In this case the faun is portrayed while playing the "Krupetion", a pressure instrument, a kind of accordion, which he stamped with his foot. Most likely the cymbals he holds were added later and were not present in the original Greek.
