In ancient roman religion, the Vestals or Vergin Vestals, were priestesses of Vesta, Goddess of the Earth. The embodied the cultivation of the sacred fire inside the roman temple nearby the forum, symbolsing the origins of Rome as it was first lighted up by Romulus and that could not be allowed to go out.
