Leda and the Swan is a story and subject from Greek mythology in which the god Zeus seduced, or raped, Leda in the form of a swan.
Bartolomeo Ammannati closely imitated the style of Michelangelo, and this is evident also in the sculpture of Leda and the Swan strongly inspired by Michelangelo's painting of the same subject.
Ammannati is mostly reknow for his architectural works, many of which in the city of Rome, but nevertheless he is also famous for his mannerist style in sculpture, having contributed to the success and affimartion of the Medici Family in Florence, togheter with Giambologna, Sansovino and Bandinelli.The original in marble is now conserved inside the National Bargello Museum, Florence.
