Pan playing the panpipes

Lost wax bronze casting.

The faun is a mythological creature, half man, half animal, with goated legs and little horns, dear to God Bacchus. He is often represented side to the God of Wine, depicted playing some instruments like the flute or the pipes, dancing and celebrating the joy of life.
This faun is a typical greek subject, then adopted also by romans. Many pompeian villas were adorned by these little type of statuettes.
