Spinario - Boy with a thorne

Lost wax bronze casting.

The original boy with a thorne in the foot today preserved at the Ufizzi Gallery in Florence is a Roman marble copy of a lost Hellenistic bronze.
The boy is a young peasant protagonist of an important task, that of bringing a mesage behind the enemy lines. While he runs his foot gets wound by a thorne. Altough in pain the brave young messanger goes ahead and completes the mission.
The young bronze boy is depicted while he is finally removing the thorne from his foot at the end of the mission.
