Pietro Capone draws inspiration from the epilogue of Moses’ life when he is excluded from the Promised Land for having disobeyed God in the episode of the waters of Meribah. The artist interprets this story as a symbol of the passage between generations: Moses represents the wisdom that sacrifices itself for the future of Joshua. The prophet is depicted directly on the Hebrew text of Deuteronomy that recounts the episode. In the painting, the words written in Hebrew, preserved for their sacredness intertwine with light and shadow, evoke the voice of God and the truth hidden within the inner self. The work thus becomes a visual dialogue between faith, word, and destiny.
