Venus of Milo

Lost wax bronze casting.

The Venus of Milo is probably one of the most celebrated statues of anitquity.
The original masterpiece is in marble, two meters tall, with no arms. Its finding is quite curious. A farmer working on his piece of land found it in 1820 and kept it for himself for decades, until the turkish military troops invading the isle of Milo confiscated it. Only thanks to the french embassy in Turkey, it could be acquired by the french government and brought to the Louvre Museum where it now resides.
