The statue represents a young God Apollo intent on throwing an arrow, made around the 1st century BC. .
The statue was to be placed inside the Temple of Apollo, the most impressive and religious monument in the city of Herculaneum. The Roman General Lucius Mummius, sacking the Greek city of Corinthian in 146 BC. he sent ships loaded with statues by sea. In fact, some archeologists suggest that the Apollo Saettante is a gift given by the General after having stripped the Greek city. the original statue is now kept inside the National Archaeological Museum of Naples.
