Hand carved white Carrara marble.
Caligula was the third Roman Emperor and he governed for about four years, after which he was assassinated by his own guards.
He was very peculiar: some sources tell that he was going to elect his beloved horse as a senator.
He was very close to the East culture and he wanted to be adorated as a god, thus he started to refer to himself as one.
Caligula's religious policy was a departure from the one of his predecessors, according to which only dead emperors could be worshipped as divine in Rome.
