Faun Inkstand after Benvenuto Cellini

Benvenuto Cellini was an important sculptor and goldsmith of the 16th century. He worked for the most important courts like Florentine’s, Roman’s and French’s one. For the French king he realized an alluring saltcellar, considered a gold working’s masterpiece. Even this inkstand is an outstanding artwork, thug it is a common object. It’s very detailed and well-finished, decorated with festoons and sort of caryatids. There’s a faun on its top, that is a typical subject of the antiquity, half man and half goat.
