Antonio Canova is the most important Neoclassical sculptor, on both an Italian and international level. This lion, with his pair, was part of the Pope Clemente XIII’s funeral monument in Rome.
Both the lions, strong and powerful animals, are guardians of the Pope’s tomb, with purpose of preventing people to disturb his quiet.
