Little Devil by Giambologna

Vecchietti were a well-known family in Florence, even Dante talked about them. A member of this family ordered Giambologna to design his palace. The artist realized a devil flag-staff for the palace’s corner, that can be found today at the Bardini Museum. The sculpture was inspired by a miracle happened in the “Canto dei Diavoli”, in the crossroad between Via dei Vecchietti and Via Strozzi. A legend says that a devil in the form of a horse appeared here in the early 13th century, but it was shooed by San Pietro Martire.
