Malatesta Medal - Front

This medal represents the 15th century lord of Rimini, Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta. It was made by the sculptor and medallist Pisanello, the first to restart the classical tradition of portraying important people, as in Roman medals. On the other side the artist represented allegoric and symbolic scenes. In this medal we can see Malatesta in his armour and the artist’s signature.
Pisanello resume also the tradition of signing his artworks.
