Gilded David after Donatello

Author: Donatello ( 1386-1468)
Period: 1440
The David is made on the occasion of the marriage between Lorenzo the Magnificent and Clarice Orsini in 1469. Represented as a young man standing, naked, with only boots and a hat called Petaso. In his right hand he holds the sword and in the left hidden behind his back the stone with which he has just killed the Goliath. This work by Donatello represents a fundamental moment for the history of art, as the artist was very passionate about ancient art that he decided to pay homage in this work: Donatello's David is in fact the first nude figure from ancient times .
