Giovanni Balderi is an Italian sculptor from Seravezza who studied in Pietrasanta. Both cities are well-known for the marble carving. He worked for the most important studios, perfecting his style until he achieved the great masters. He creates translucent and polished superficies thanks to his particular marble’s manufacture, that makes him unique.
Balderi is tied to his creations by a quite sentimental bound, he’s so careful in carving that he seems more worried about hurting his sculptures, rather than damaging them.
The full commitment and the exceptional ability lead him to stunning results. His sculptures seem to come from an ancient classic past. They are often without heads and limbs, but their beauty remains complete. His creations are quite ethereal, covered by a drapery falling like silk. His ability in realizing very light veils reminds great neoclassical sculptor’s, as Canova.
Eufrosine is one of the Three Graces, that were Zeus’ daughters. They were one of the most represented Greek mythological figures because they express very well the classic idea of beauty and harmony.
