Venus with Apple after Thordvalsen 40cm

Thorwladsen was a Neoclassical sculptor from Denmark, but he spent most of his life in Italy.
He drawn motifs for his works mostly from Greek mythology. The statue represents a Venus with apple.
In the Homeric Poems the apple is the source of discord: according to the myth, Eris, the goddess of strike and discord, threw an apple during a banquet held by Zeus. The apple was the price for the fairest one. Three goddesses claimed it, but Venus won at the end.
