Antonio Canova was a famous Neoclassical Italian sculptor who works also in other countries.
The putto is a naked winged child that is often represented by Classics. After the Christianism they came to represent little angels. They became a leit motiv and they are represented in sacred and profane compositions as decorative elements. They are very represented also during Neoclassicism, when they became a decorative element. Here Canova carves a curvy putto seated and concentrated in reading something.
