Nisa, born in Switzerland with Afro-American roots, started as an engraver in Lucerne before pursuing a degree from the vocational baccalaureate in design and discovering a passion for painting after a year-long preparatory course in various art forms. She studied at the Florence Academy of Art, refining her technical skills while getting inspiration from the city’s rich history. Now based in Florence, Nisa works on personal projects and teaches the engraving class in Zurich.
''My intention is to inspire the viewer to reflect on the ways we are all shaped by the world around us, and to celebrate the beauty that emerges from blending diverse cultural perspectives.
My artwork is a reflection of a continuous exploration of technique, history, personal expression and my ongoing journey to learn from and merge diverse cultural influences. Growing up with Afro-American roots in Switzerland and studying in Florence, I have always been inspired by the richness and complexity of different cultures. I believe that art is a universal language, capable of bridging gaps between history, people, and places. Through my work, I explore how different cultural traditions, both personal and global, shape our identities and histories. The technical skills I’ve honed through painting, combined with my exposure to various cultural narratives, allow me to create pieces that weave together diverse influences. ''
