Sandeep Krishnan Sabu is a sculptor and a draughtsman. His sculptures are informed mainly by drawing and design. The simplicity of process to work with clay, shaping forms which may carry meaning and then casting them to endure centuries is what his teacher termed “working with earthly materials” for its raw and elemental nature. This practice hasn't changed much since the Bronze Age.
A sculpture may live far beyond a single millennium, while its meaning and importance stay and shift across centuries and cultures. Over time, the same piece can attain new significance depending on who discovers it and when. For Sandeep, what is meaningful is being part of a tradition that stretches back to over 5000 years, and knowing it will continue for thousands more.
