Artists

Borja Perez Mielgo

Borja Pérez Mielgo (7th of April 1988) was born in Málaga, Spain in an environment of music, art, history and philosophy. From a young age, he was deeply inspired by the great baroque artists like Ribera, Rembrandt and Caravaggio.

He has spent most of his adult life in the United Kingdom where he received a BA degree in Fine Arts from the Cardiff Metropolitan University and shortly after completed a Master of Fine Arts. He taught Spanish in private schools in Wales for 2 years and was a printmaking assistant at Cardiff Metropolitan University for one year. After working in Barcelona, where he visited the Museu European d’Art Modern (MEAM) each weekend to draw from life, he moved to Scotland to join the Academy of Realist Art, now called the Edinburgh Atelier of Fine Art (EAFA). Here he learned the technical skills and craftsmanship that are the foundations of representational art, and where he was taught and inspired by Sarah Margaret Gibson.

Throughout his career, he has remained true to the concept of painting as a craft, and the constant search for the essence of it. In his work, he wants to deal with aesthetical and philosophical issues in a very humanistic and timeless expression.
While being aware of his long journey as an art student and now formally a student at the Florence Academy of Art he also works giving workshops at GekoArt in studio in Florence, where he currently studies, works and lives.
